Eat, where the locals go…

Prices in the Old town and Castle district are made for tourists. If you would like to go for a meal, where the Prague natives go every day, jump on a tram or metro and move around a little. In few minutes, you can reach the residential areas, where the prices are fair and healthy 🙂
Don’t forget to buy public transport ticket. I recommend the 24 hours ticket, which is 120 crowns (cca. 5 Euros). And stamp it, before entering!!!
Every person with 65+ years of age has free public transport in Prague.

Free Jazz concerts

The music club Jazz Republic has held concerts since 1997 pretty much without a break. It is mainly the concert dramaturgy that determines the character of the Jazz Republic and is unique in Europe and probably even the whole world. We cooperate with 30 top Czech jazz musicians, who as residential artists compose ad-hoc music formations performed at the Jazz Republic. Each concert is therefore special, because it will never repeat itself with the specific constitution and repertoire. This is our tribute to jazz music and its basic constructive process, musical improvisations.

Prague Zoo

The history of Prague Zoo goes all the way back to the year 1881, when, on the occasion of the wedding of Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria and Princess Stephanie of Belgium, daughter of Belgian king Leopold II, Count Sweerts-Sporck published an open letter in the newspapers calling for the establishment of a zoological garden in Prague.

8 years later…

Crown prince Rudolf shot him self.

Vítkov National Memorial on Vítkov Hill with the Tomb of an Unknown Soldier
(free entry)

The National Memorial on Vítkov Hill was built in 1928-1933 according to the design of architect Jan Zázvorka to honour Czechoslovak legionaries. Work on the artistic decoration and interior of the memorial ended in 1938. The opening ceremony of the National Liberation Memorial was planned for 28 October 1938, the 20th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic, and was to be combined with a military parade to demonstrate the determination to defend our country. However, that did not happen because of the consequences of the Munich Agreement.

Further modifications to the memorial began after World War II, when it was to be supplemented by a memorial hall dedicated to the Second Resistance. A bronze equestrian statue of Jan Žižka z Trocnova by Bohumil Kafka was installed. After February 1948, the memorial was turned into the Pantheon of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. It became the last resting place of the leaders of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. In 1953, the Klement Gottwald Mausoleum was established here. After 1989, the remains of the representatives of the former regime were removed from the memorial.
